Protection Sales Manager

Southampton | Full-Time Office Based
Salary: Up to £45,000 + OTE £60,000 – £70,000
Managing a team of up to 20 Protection Specialists

We are currently working in partnership with a well-established and growing Financial Services organisation in Southampton that is looking to appoint an experienced Protection Sales Manager to lead and develop its Protection division.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sales leader within the mortgage and protection sector who enjoys driving performance, coaching advisers, and building a high-performing culture within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

The business already has a successful Protection function in place and has ambitious growth plans to expand the team to approximately 20 advisers over the next 12 months.

The Opportunity

As Protection Sales Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, performance, and development of a team of Protection Specialists. Working closely with the Protection Sales Director, you will play a key role in driving revenue growth, improving adviser performance, maintaining compliance standards, and supporting the wider strategic growth of the department.

This is a highly visible leadership position offering long-term progression potential within a growing business.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Protection Specialists to achieve and exceed business objectives.
  • Conduct daily team catch-ups to review pipeline activity, lead flow, sales performance, and complex cases.
  • Carry out regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, and development plans.
  • Implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) where required.
  • Set and monitor sales targets in collaboration with the Protection Sales Director.
  • Support advisers throughout the day with case escalation, sourcing support, and objection handling.

Sales & Revenue Growth

  • Drive performance across all revenue streams including Protection, PMI, Wills, and Wealth referrals.
  • Monitor KPIs, conversion rates, and adviser productivity, intervening where performance falls below expectations.
  • Review NTU (Not Taken Up) data and identify opportunities for reinstatements and improved customer retention.
  • Ensure campaign and review data is accurately maintained to maximise renewal and review opportunities.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure advisers consistently adhere to FCA regulations, Consumer Duty standards, and internal compliance procedures.
  • Conduct regular call listening, file reviews, and quality assessments, providing structured feedback and coaching.
  • Handle complaints and escalations from clients, advisers, and internal stakeholders professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain strong Conduct Risk behaviours and place customer outcomes at the centre of all decision-making.

Recruitment & Stakeholder Management

  • Support recruitment activity, including interviewing, onboarding, and induction training for new hires.
  • Build strong working relationships with Compliance, Operations, HR, Marketing, and other internal departments.
  • Manage team holidays, absence management, probation reviews, and HR-related matters in line with company policy.
  • Help create a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on accountability, support, and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous management or team leader experience within Protection or Financial Services sales.
  • A strong understanding of Protection products and FCA-regulated environments.
  • Proven experience managing KPIs, driving sales performance, and coaching advisers.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience conducting call listening, performance reviews, and compliance-focused coaching.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate and develop teams.

Additional Information

  • Full-time office-based role in Southampton through probation then moving to hybrid.
  • Occasional travel to the London office and other UK sites may be required.
